Adam was not deceived in the garden… Paul tells Timothy… Adam not deceived the woman was deceived but not Adam. So this opens up a whole world of understanding for us if we’re willing to hear the Lord.
I hear preachers say that ‘the devil tricked Adam and Eve into eating the fruit’… then why did Paul say ‘Adam was not deceived the woman was deceived’? So let’s go back a bit.. God put Adam and Eve in the garden and the serpent was there… and this serpent revealed himself to Eve. Adam and eve were walking together in harmony. God said that ‘there’s no one comparable to Adam’ or for Adam.. ‘I will make him a help-meet comparable to him’… and comparable means that she was the image of him… just like him… and yet Adam being created first was the head over woman… the covering… not the ruler but the covering over woman… and so everything was sweet..
But the serpent in his guile, we know he spoke to Eve and she paid attention to him… now this is a spiritual being she is talking to. it’s not a snake… because only after they fell did God pronounce upon the serpent that his punishment would be that he would crawl upon his belly…that he would crawl on the dust of the earth.. and so we know then that he wasn’t crawling on the earth(at the time he spoke to Eve)… so this is a spiritual being… We know it is Satan.. it is Lucifer… The Serpent of old… and as such we also know from the scriptures that ‘he was created perfect’… that within him he had musical instruments… that he was the Cherub who came from the very presence of God… and so he was able to transform himself into an angel of Light… so he was- is astonishingly glorious beyond our comprehension and here he is turning up in the garden… and I think that Adam was well aware that he was talking with his wife and that she was paying attention to him.
And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.
We’re not told if they’d had any conversations prior to that though he was there in the garden… so because we know that ‘Adam was not deceived’ –he was aware of the Serpent’s presence, this shining Angel, Fallen Angel, well debatable whether he had even Fallen, yet because Adam hadn’t sinned… and so because Adam was not deceived… we know that he knew what was going on… and I believe he saw his wife talking with the serpent and was envious …because if he looked at himself he was just this skin and flesh, a human being compared to this glorious Shining Angel… and Adam wanted to be like him.
God had said ‘you may eat from any tree of the garden but the tree of the knowledge of Good and Evil you shall not eat’… so they were able to eat from the Tree of Life which was in the center of the garden and so was the tree of the knowledge of Good and Evil… but Adam, I believe saw because he had perfect understanding, he had no Shadow over his understanding because he had not yet Fallen, he saw that there would be more to gain for himself if he ate from the Tree of the knowledge of Good and Evil… that he would be able to have dominion over Eve.
Satan for his part wanted the Dominion given to Adam and because she(Eve) was his wife, he wanted the Dominion given to Adam and Eve… so Adam said to God ‘the woman you gave me.. gave me the fruit and I ate from it.’ But that wasn’t the real reason …he blamed her… but he wanted that fruit for another reason… and I believe it was to do with having dominion over his wife… having her attention and ruling over her…
And that’s exactly what we see in the curse pronounced by God upon Adam.. upon Eve.. both of them really… He said to Eve ‘your desire shall be for your husband and he shall rule over you’… that’s a curse church.. That is a curse and it comes through being a partaker of the tree of the knowledge of Good and Evil which Paul called the ministry of death and also he said it is the ministry of condemnation… 2 Corinthians 3 and 4.
It’s the first Covenant based on keeping the law of God perfectly… Paul called it …and remember he was a Pharisee… he said he was blameless according to the law…. he called it the ministry of death.. which is what the tree of the knowledge of Good and Evil will do to us if we eat of it and live inside of it. We eat death whenever we are going back from grace.. even during the day… when we step into that old mind that says, ‘I can do this.. I can show you God that I am a good person… that I’m a good Christian worthy of Heaven… that I’m worthy of the Rapture by what I do for You’…
